Ming Tombs, started to built in 20 June, 1409, is located at north foot of Tianshou Mountain, Changping district, Beijing. It is 50 km from the city center, it is the mausoleum of 13 emperors of Ming dynasty. With a total area of 124 square kilometers, the Ming Tombs were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 3, 2003.

The site of Ming Tombs was chosen on the feng shui principles by the third Ming Dynasty emperor Yongle (1402–1424), who moved the capital of China from Nanjing to its the present location in Beijing. The mausoleums was well preserved, as has the necropolis of each of the many emperors. The Ming Tombs with its long history as well as the palatial and integrated architecture have a high cultural and historic value for China and the World.

Changling was the first built of the Ming Tombs, it is the mausoleum of Emperor Zhu Di and his empresses. This is the most magnificent of the tombs. Other twelve emperors had their tombs built around Changling. The layout and arrangement of the mausoleums are very similar but different in size and structures.

Now only the Changling and Dingling are open to the public. As the largest and best preservce mausoleum, the internal area of the main building in Changling is 1956 square meters. Dingling which is an under ground mausoleum is about 27 meters deep. It is buried the Emperor Zhu Yijun, the thirteenth emperor who occupied the throne the longest during the Ming Dynasty, and his two empresses. The main features are the Stone Bridge, Soul Tower, Baocheng and the Underground Place, which was unearthed between 1956 and 1958. Dingling is very beautiful and stable.
